Top 3 Reasons You Should Seal Your Pavers

Sep 01, 2022

Natural landscaping beautifully frames your home and adds appealing texture and color. Hardscaping adds even more texture plus a lot of functionality. But what is hardscaping?

Concrete paver driveways and sidewalks, brick pathways, natural stone patios, travertine pool decks... These are all examples of hardscapes that accent your home or business and improve your property's functionality. As hard as these surfaces are, they still need the right care in order to look their best and function as they should.

Top 3 Reasons You Should Seal Your Pavers

If you ignore your hardscape, it won't send out stray branches or shrivel and die. But it won't exactly look its best, either. Neglected hardscapes look... neglected! Here are three reasons you really should take care of your pavers just like you do the rest of your landscaping.

1. Sealing your pavers will delay erosion.

Unsealed pavers absorb moisture and can swell and shift over time. Sealing pavers also allows your patio or pool deck to drain properly after a rainfall. Without proper drainage, the bed under your pavers could start eroding, resulting in even more shifting and unevenness.

2. It prevents pavers from fading in the sun or absorbing ugly stains.

Sealed pavers retain their beautiful color and gain protection from staining and fading in between sealings. And wasn't that color the reason you choose them in the first place?

3. Sealing them will extend the life of your pavers.

A good sealant that is properly applied protects your pavers from the elements, helping them hold up to routine sealing over many years. While nothing can keep away weeds 100%, sealing can help slow down the growth which can quickly lead to deterioration of your pavers.

Now that you've seen the benefits of paver sealing, don't you think your pavers deserve a little care and attention?

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often should my pavers be sealed?

We recommend sealing maintenance every 2-3 years.

  • Can I run my sprinklers while you seal my pavers?

Turn off your sprinkler system on the day your pavers are being cleaned and sealed.

  • How soon after my pavers are sealed can I walk on them?

The paver surface can be opened to foot traffic 4 hours after cleaning and sealing is completed. Travertine is recommended at least to the next day.

  • Does sealing protect my hardscapes against stains?

No sealers on the market are designed to stop stains. Sealers do not make the surface stainproof, but they allow you time to clean the surface. It puts a barrier between the elements.
