Pools & Sealed Pavers: A Perfect Match for Your Florida Home

Oct 01, 2022

You're chilling by the pool, enjoying the perfect Florida weather and the enchanting details that make your pool area so inviting. Those details include the travertine, concrete, or brick pavers surrounding your watery oasis. Are those pavers looking as great as they could? If not, stripping improperly sealed pavers and resealing them the right way can restore them to their former glory.

The Benefits of Pool Pavers

Pavers provide a charming setting for your pool. They're available in such a wide range of colors, patterns, and textures that you were probably spoiled for choice when it came to narrowing it down to just one (or three!) Besides their great looks, pavers also add tremendous functionality to your pool surround.

Why Pavers?

  • Pool pavers are durable.
  • There's less chance of falling with slip-resistant pavers surrounding your pool.
  • Pavers are easy to care for (as long as they're sealed properly).

Why Sealing Your Pavers Is So Important

To keep your pool pavers looking and performing their best, it's imperative that they're resealed every two to three years. Let's face it, without proper pool paver sealing, your pool area is going to start looking pretty bad.

And the mold and mildew growing literally underfoot? If not cleaned, that "black mold" can be brought into your home by pets on their fur, children on their feet or on clothing. Well, that's a risk to the health of your family and just plain gross!

How Resealing Your Pavers Protects Them

  • Properly sealed pool pavers and other hardscaping are protected against stains from spilled drinks and loaded hot dogs that land (you guessed it!) upside down.
  • A reputable paver sealer company knows to use texture and technique to offer the kind of anti-skid security that can keep you and your guests from making an unintended big splash.
  • Resealing your pavers will give them new life, allowing you years of extra enjoyment before you have to replace them.
  • Paver sealing protects them (and your feet!) from the disgusting mold and mildew that just loves to grow on unsealed pavers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How soon after my pavers are sealed can I walk on them?

The paver surface can be opened to foot traffic 4 hours after cleaning and sealing is completed. Travertine is recommended at least to the next day.

  • How soon after my pavers are sealed can I swim in my pool?

You may swim in your pool the next day. The sealer is non-toxic and if you ran the pool as advised throughout the evening, it will be clear.

  • Why seal pavers around my pool?

Sealing your pavers around your pool is a great way to add protection and extend the life of your pool decking. It helps resist staining caused by water, algae, dirt, and other contaminants, while also creating a barrier against weeds and moss growth. Additionally, sealing pavers will make them more resistant to erosion and cracking caused by freeze/thaw cycles and other environmental factors. Finally, sealing pavers will bring out the colors in your pavers, enhancing their natural beauty.

  • Does pool water damage pavers?

Pool water can damage pavers if it is not properly treated and maintained. At a minimum, pool water should be tested regularly and balanced to ensure that the pH levels are optimal for protecting your pavers. Additionally, pool decks made of natural stone may require special sealants to help resist staining from chemicals in the pool water.
